The 2006 Trek 5200 bicycle

From 2006 until 2021, I rode a Trek 5200 road bike with a triple 52/39/30 front chainring, 10-speed 12-25 cassette, and Shimano Ultegra components.

It was very light, but had the following drawbacks in a commuting bike:

• There is almost no clearance for fenders.

• The wheels only accept 25mm tires, which are precarious during wet weather.

• The frame lacks any eyelets for securing racks.

• The cables coming from the brifters are not routed along the handlebars, but stick out where a front bag might go.

• The spokes are bladed for aerodynamics and sharp when holding the wheels by them.

I did manage to fit SKS Raceblade fenders and a Tubus Airy rear rack with their QR adapter set.
