macOS software I used in the past
TaskPaper's outlining features were nice, but was ultimately replaced with plain Markdown due to the quality of iA Writer.
Numi was never used seriously, as the calculators in LaunchBar or Spotlight are good enough for quick calculations.
Hammerspoon, a programmable window management and automation system, wasn't pulling its cognitive weight. I didn't need the full flexibility and managing the configuration became a pain.
Coda always felt a bit heavyweight and I never used it seriously, but it was very pretty and a nice spiritual successor to SubEthaEdit.
Acme is a fantastic study in the bare minimum needed for a graphical development environment, but is a bit too cumbersome with a trackpad.
Vim and Neovim were faithful companions for more than a decade, but eventually I started to bristle at having to use them in a terminal emulator and deal with their esoteric configuration systems.
Shiori and Spillo once helped me manage the thousands of bookmarks I kept in Pinboard, but I never referred to them and just accumulated what felt like debt. Also, Spillo would frequently get my IP banned from Hacker News, as I had many bookmarks pointed there that would be periodically refreshed.
SubEthaEdit was the first text editor I enjoyed using and even got to use its collaboration features once or twice. It's great to see that it's back on the market, but its local-only collaborative editing is a bit too cumbersome now that web-based collaboration has become ubiquitous.
