The Acme development environment

Updated on .

Acme is a graphical development environment for the Plan 9 operating system. It relies on mouse chording (holding multiple mouse buttons at the same time) and has an elegant design that makes it easy to extend with tools that are typically used on a command line.

However, it expects code to be well-formatted and doesn’t offer affordances for long lines. This fits with the environment where it was developed: a rewrite from the ground up where all code is under the programmer’s control.
